Compress image to 20KB
A 20 KB upload is most common for compact signatures and other small form graphics, not for every passport photograph. Start with the document type requested by the portal, then match both its file format and its size range. A byte target alone cannot confirm that the image has the right dimensions, background or content.
The target is preselected. Compression is best-effort; verify the saved file before upload.

ID card: places the first two pages as front & back at ID-1 size on one A4 sheet. Use Edit to crop or align the four corners.
Optional. Keeps the image ratio and never exceeds the page.
Everything runs in your browser — your files are never uploaded.
How do I compress an image to 20KB?
Choose the image, crop away unused background, leave the 20 KB target selected, and export. LensUp works toward the limit with best-effort quality reduction and reports the actual result, because a detailed photograph may not reach 20 KB while remaining usable.
This page is also an image resizer 20kb workflow and a photo resizer 20kb workflow. The same controls can resize image to 20kb as closely as the source permits. Processing stays in your browser, so the file is not sent to LensUp while you crop, adjust and export it.
Official upload examples
These verified examples show why the correct target depends on the authority and document slot.
| Authority and document | Verified requirement | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Staff Selection Commission (SSC)CHT Examination signature | JPEG/JPG, 10 KB–20 KB, about 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm | SSC now captures the candidate photograph live for this notice, so an old photo-upload rule should not be assumed. |
| Reserve Bank of India (RBI)Recruitment signature | JPG/JPEG, preferred 140 × 60 pixels, 10 KB–20 KB | The signature must remain clear; reducing bytes does not replace the portal’s pixel and legibility checks. |
| Reserve Bank of India (RBI)Recruitment photograph | JPG/JPEG, preferred 200 × 230 pixels, 20 KB–50 KB | This is a verified example of a portal that accepts a size range rather than one exact number. |
Official limits can change by recruitment, year and document type. Check the latest official notice or guidelines before you upload.
How to prepare the file
- Choose and crop the correct fileOpen the image or signature and remove only empty margins. Keep every stroke, edge and required background visible; aggressive cropping can make an otherwise small file unacceptable.
- Review the scan before reducing bytesUse colour, grayscale or black-and-white according to the form instructions. Zoom in to check facial detail or signature strokes before asking the image resizer 20kb control to reduce quality.
- Export and verify the reported sizeExport the result, read the actual KB value, and preview it again. If 20 KB cannot be reached clearly, use the smallest readable result and re-check whether the portal accepts a range.
Why a 20 KB result can vary
File size depends on pixel count, texture, noise, colour and JPEG complexity. A clean black signature on white paper usually compresses more efficiently than a face, patterned clothing or a textured wall. Two images with the same dimensions can therefore finish at very different byte sizes.
LensUp uses a best-effort process rather than claiming an exact result. It tries quality and resolution changes while keeping the page usable. Always compare the saved file with the original and stop if fine strokes, facial features or printed numbers become hard to read.
A practical upload checklist
Confirm whether the portal requests JPG or JPEG, note its minimum and maximum dimensions, and check whether the item is a photograph, signature or thumb impression. Do not substitute one file type for another simply because it fits 20 KB.
After saving, open the official form preview and inspect the complete boundary. A successful upload is not the same as an accepted document; the recruiting body may still reject a blurred, miniature, incomplete or incorrectly placed image.
Frequently asked questions
Can I resize image to 20kb without uploading it?
Yes. LensUp processes the image locally in the browser. Select the 20 KB target, export, and use the displayed result size to decide whether it is suitable for the official portal.
Why is my photo still above 20 KB?
A photograph may contain too much detail to remain clear at that size. Crop unused background, try grayscale only if the form allows it, and accept that best-effort compression may finish above 20 KB.
Is 20 KB correct for every government form?
No. The verified SSC and RBI examples use 10–20 KB for signatures, while the RBI photograph example uses 20–50 KB. Check the current notice for your exact recruitment and document.
