Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF white out tool free?
Yes — free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. A PDF can be up to 100 MB.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened, covered and saved in your browser; nothing is sent to a server. The file you opened is not changed — you download a new copy.
Is the text under the white out really gone?
Only if you choose Remove it when you download: the whole file is then saved as pictures of its pages, so what was under the covers is gone — and the rest of the text can no longer be selected or searched. With Keep as is, the box only hides the text: it stays in the file and can be copied or found by search.
Can I white out a scanned PDF?
Yes. Choose Page color: the box takes the color of the page around it, so it blends into gray or yellowed paper. Remove it saves every page as a picture, so any selectable or searchable text in the PDF is lost.
Can I type over the white out?
Yes. With Keep as is, press Add text and click on the box before you download. With Remove it, the covers are painted last, so text typed on them would be covered too: choose Remove it and download first, then open the new file here and type in the white space. Added text is saved as outlines, so it cannot be selected as text.
Is white out the same as redaction?
Not by itself: a white box only covers. Choosing Remove it when you download is what takes the covered content out of the file. Use it for anything others must not be able to read. Remove it works on files of up to 100 pages, and the file is usually larger afterwards.
Can I white out a password-protected PDF?
Yes. A PDF with an open password opens once you type it, and the new copy keeps the same password. A PDF locked only against changes opens too, and the copy does not keep those restrictions.
Can I white out a PDF on my phone?
Yes, in your phone’s browser — no app. Drag with your finger over what to hide; a box can then be moved or resized.
