    How do I compress a PDF to 100KB?

    Add the PDF, inspect the locally rendered pages, select the 100 KB target and export. LensUp works toward the limit with best-effort compression, then displays the actual size so you can confirm it against the portal.

    This workflow can reduce pdf size to 100kb without sending the source to LensUp. When you choose an existing PDF, LensUp renders its pages locally as raster page images. The exported file does not retain selectable text, interactive forms, clickable links or vector content.

    How to prepare the file

    1. Confirm the portal’s PDF ruleRead the current notice for maximum size, page size and accepted format. A 100 KB image instruction is not automatically a 100 KB PDF instruction.
    2. Clean the page setReview every rendered page, correct orientation and remove only pages the form does not request. Crop background while retaining full document edges, stamps and signatures.
    3. Export and read the resultUse the 100 KB preset, save the output and note its actual size. Reopen it to inspect small text and then review it once more in the application portal.

    Measured: a 5-page scan compressed to 100, 200 and 500 KB

    On 12 October 2026 we opened a 4.8 MB, 5-page scanned PDF in our 100, 200 and 500 KB PDF tools and pressed Export on each; a script then checked each file. “Within” means under the limit whether the form counts 1 KB as 1000 or 1024 bytes; sizes are rounded up.

    Where it fell short: To fit 5 pages into 100 KB, each page became a 510 × 721-pixel image. We did not score legibility: compare the 100 KB lines below with the others, and zoom into your own file before you submit. If the form allows a larger file, choose a larger limit under Export options.

    Balance page count and clarity

    One sharp monochrome page can usually use the 100 KB budget more effectively than several camera photographs. If multiple pages must be submitted together, each page receives fewer bytes and fine print can become blocky.

    LensUp makes a best-effort trade-off and does not claim a guaranteed target. When readability fails, rescan in better light, straighten the page and remove outside background instead of repeatedly compressing an already damaged file.

    Keep the source of truth

    Save the original PDF separately. The compressed result is intended for a visual upload and loses the original text layer and interactions during rasterization. It should not replace an archival, digitally signed or form-enabled document.

    The cited official examples show how widely limits differ: RBI uses 50–100 KB for a handwritten-declaration image, while IBPS permits specified PDF certificates up to 500 KB. Your live form decides which rule applies.

    Can I reduce PDF size to 100kb for a government form?

    You can work toward 100 KB when the form requests it. Compression is best-effort, and you must verify format, page count, clarity and the actual output size.

    Why did my PDF stay above 100 KB?

    Several pages, color, noise and fine text need more data. Crop irrelevant background or rescan cleanly; do not sacrifice required content merely to force the number.

    Does the compressed PDF keep forms and vectors?

    No. Existing PDFs are rendered into raster page images. Selectable text, forms, links and vector content are not preserved in the exported result.
