Five hundred kilobytes is a documented ceiling for some official certificate uploads. It gives a single or short multi-page scan more room for readable text than very small targets, but the form may still require A4 pages and a specific certificate category.

How to prepare the file
- Identify the certificate and page ruleConfirm that the upload expects PDF, note whether pages must be A4 and learn whether several documents should be combined or uploaded separately.
- Review the visual page copiesInspect orientation, margins, stamps, signatures and small text on every rendered page. Remove only unwanted background or pages that the official instructions exclude.
- Export toward 500 KBUse the preset, open the saved PDF and check the reported size. Read the smallest important text and inspect the form preview before completing the application.
Measured: a 5-page scan compressed to 100, 200 and 500 KB
On 12 October 2026 we opened a 4.8 MB, 5-page scanned PDF in our 100, 200 and 500 KB PDF tools and pressed Export on each; a script then checked each file. “Within” means under the limit whether the form counts 1 KB as 1000 or 1024 bytes; sizes are rounded up.

Where it fell short: The 500 KB file met its limit. To fit 5 pages into 100 KB, each page became a 510 × 721-pixel image. We did not score legibility: compare the 100 KB lines below with the others, and zoom into your own file before you submit. If the form allows a larger file, choose a larger limit under Export options.

A verified 500 KB example
The cited IBPS 2026 scanning guideline states that specified SSC/SSLC/10th or eligibility certificates must be PDF, use A4 page size and not exceed 500 KB. It also says the documents must remain clear and readable.
That example supports this target, but it is not a permanent rule for every IBPS or Indian portal. Always use the notice attached to your application. Requirements can change by recruitment, category and year.
Use the larger budget carefully
A 500 KB ceiling can preserve seals and fine print better than 50 KB or 100 KB, especially across more than one page. Clean cropping and straight capture still matter because desk background and shadow consume data without helping reviewers.
