Remove what’s under the covers?

A cover only hides: what is under it stays in the file and can be copied or found by search. Removing what is under the covers saves the whole file as pictures of its pages — the covered content is gone, and the text can no longer be selected or searched. Links and form fields are removed too.

Split or save pages

A comma starts a new part: 1-3, 4-6 is two parts. Your edits on these pages are included.

How do I split a PDF into two files?

Open the PDF above: the two halves are already filled in. To split somewhere else, choose the page to split after. Press A PDF for each part, then download each PDF — free, with no sign-up and no upload.

How to split a PDF in three steps

  1. Open the PDFUp to 100 MB. A password-protected PDF asks for its password.
  2. Choose the partsSplit after a page, or type them, e.g. 1-3, 4-6, where a comma starts a new part.
  3. Download each PDFDownload each PDF or all of them in a ZIP. All in one PDF takes some pages out as one file; A PDF for each page saves every page on its own.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free? Are there limits?

It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. A PDF can be up to 100 MB. One press splits a PDF into multiple files: up to 100 parts, or up to 100 pages as separate files, and up to 300 MB of new files at a time.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and split in your browser, and the parts are saved from it; nothing is sent to a server. You can check this yourself — see Check that nothing is uploaded below. The file you opened is not changed.

Does the text stay text?

Yes. The pages are copied as they are, with nothing re-encoded, so text you can select in the PDF stays selectable in each part. A scanned page stays a picture: there is no text recognition here.

How do I extract some pages into one PDF?

Type the pages, for example 1-3, 5, and press All in one PDF. Those pages are saved as one new PDF, named by its pages; the other pages are not in that file.

Can every page be its own PDF?

Yes. Type the pages and press A PDF for each page: each page you listed becomes an individual PDF in a list, each with its own Download button — up to 100 pages at a time. Download all (ZIP) takes them together.

Can I split a PDF by file size?

No. Splitting is by pages, and a part can stay close to the size of the whole file when it shares a large font or picture with the other pages. To make a file smaller, use Compress PDF to a size (linked below) — its pages become pictures there.

Can I split a PDF into JPG images?

No. Each part is a PDF; this tool does not turn pages into images.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Yes. A PDF with an open password opens once you type it, and each part keeps the same password. A PDF locked only against changes opens too, and its parts do not keep those restrictions. Files attached inside the PDF are not copied into the parts.

What happens to a digitally signed PDF?

Its parts are new files. A signature may still show on its page, but it is not valid in the parts. Where the signature will be checked, send the original PDF.

Can I edit the PDF before splitting it?

Yes. The PDF editor’s tools are on the same page: add text, a signature or a picture, or fill in the form, then split. Your edits on the chosen pages are included in the parts.
